50 years today

February 3, 2009

Ok, this is really, really strange. I’ve been spending a lot of time with oldies these past few months. Just now I had the overwhelming urge to see if there was a Youtube on “The Day the Music Died.” As I was watching it, I noticed CNN Headline news running an interview with a relative of Ritchie Valens. Turns out it’s 50 years today that the plane went down in Iowa. I had no idea. Very eerie.

But then, that’s the way things have been in my life in recent months. “Coincidences.” and lots of them.

So today’s posts will pay tribute to Buddy Holley, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, who all died way too soon. And talk about luck: Dion and Waylon Jennings could’ve been on that plane, too, and how different would the music world be if they had?
