Summer’s tail end is worth celebrating, so M and I decided to do a quick jaunt to Lake Tahoe. He’d never been, and I hadn’t visited for decades. It’s not like we’re outdoorsy in a big way, because we aren’t, and neither of us enjoy skiing. But the beauty of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada range make it a destination worth seeing. Girlfriend tagged along–it was just a single night–and that made it a party.
It was an easy 3.5 hour drive in the Starship Enterprise on a weekday morning, and we were headed to the Marriott Grand Residences (a time share resort available for rental) at Heavenly Ski Resort, where a gorgeous two-bedroom / three-bath suite awaited us for the off-season bargain rate of $240 total. It had a huge living room with fireplace and two nice attached bedrooms with comfy beds and nice linens. I’d hate to rent in the high season–summer or winter peak–but it was a deal in the shoulder.
Tahoe blue sky
The sky was the most amazing shade of deep blue–not a cloud to mar the canvas. And so many rocks and evergreens in the mountains.
We saw a tram from the ground–and could only imagine the view.
So, we decided to take Heavenly’s gondola ride up the mountain. Wayyy up.
Views from atop Heavenly Ski Resort
We were rewarded with spectacular views.
The Sierra surround Lake Tahoe
You don’t have to ski to love the Sierra.
Green. So much green.
The mountains look densely forested, but when we got up on the mountain we saw that the trees were spaced more widely apart than they looked from below.
More trees and sky
Visit California!
There’s lots to recommend a visit to California. Lake Tahoe is one big one. Of course, Tahoe is in both California and Nevada. But we’ll plant the flag for California.
What is there not to like about Lake Tahoe. I love the pictures you shared. I especially like Tahoe in the fall when the leaves are in full color. I plan on a trip there then. 🙂
So beautiful. Spectacular photos of your visit. I’ve never been to Lake Tahoe (excluding one quick drive by from one place to another). One day I’ll get to go there and relax. Thank you for sharing!
Here you’ll find my blog, some of my essays, published writing, and my solo performances. There’s also a link to my Etsy shop for healing and grief tools offered through A Healing Spirit.
