What’s the best summer job you had

April 17, 2018

best-summer-jobMost of us worked at summer jobs when we were teens. I know I did. And I know I had a best summer job.

Maybe you did, too. Or maybe you weren’t a teen. Maybe your best summer job came later.

Whenever it was, I’m dying to know.

My best summer job was in a supermarket as a meat wrapper. Yes, that’s right. A meat wrapper. I was almost 18 and getting ready to go to college. There was a specific cute teenage bag boy that I had a crush on. Those of us working at that supermarket would all go to parties together. It was a great way to spend the summer before I went away to college. I enjoyed every one of those parties. They made wrapping meat, even LIVER, worth it.

Little did I know I’d meet my future and current husband just a few months later.

How about you? What was your best summer job?

I did work as a helper to the camp counselors at a summer camp one year. That wasn’t terrible. I actually liked some of the kids.

We mowed yards, bucked hay, walked the bean fields and detasseled corn when I was a kid. All hot sweaty manual labor work. We had a blast.

Best summer job I had was an internship at a newspaper. Back then Internship meant next to no pay (as in $35 total) but provided endless exposure and opportunity in the print community. I wrote articles with a by-line, had my photos printed, learned about offset press and fell in love with pre-press production. It set the path for me becoming a production coordinator and typographer and influenced pretty much everything else in my life from the person I married to the memoir I wrote.
