Creative gift giving

December 3, 2010

As we age and begin to live on retirement, many of us decide to stop exchanging birthday and holiday gifts.

I’ll never be one of those.

I love choosing gifts for friends and enjoy the process of finding the just-perfect thing. To me, gift-giving is one way to express our generosity of spirit. There’s too little of that going around today in our me-centered world.

Gifts don’t have to be expensive. If you’re creatively gifted, a hand-made gift means so much. There’s nothing more satisfying than to have a friend say that she often uses a vase I painted for her or that she loved one of the books I gave her.
A few girlfriends are just starting their holiday shopping and looking for some creative ideas. Now that the weather’s turned colder everywhere, a hot chocolate gift basket sounds perfect to me. Healthy, too! {All things in moderation…}
You can put your own together with hot cocoa mix, cinnamon sticks and some festive cookies. Add a fun cup or mug if you like. Package it in a basket or a box stuffed with holiday tissue, add ribbon–adorable.

Or you can buy a pre-packaged gift set. I know I’m biased, but Ghirardelli brand cocoa is delicious. I think Ghirardelli markest a packaged gift set.

Even a lovely tin of delicious cocoa by itself makes a wonderful gift. I don’t know about you, but I’m a little tired of bringing wine as a hostess gift and have turned to more creative ideas. Like hot cocoa. {Or Intensity Academy’s fabulous marinades and hot sauces. Or candles.}

By the way, consumable gifts are the way to go for those of us trying to simplify our lives. Chocolate is very consumable. Very.
What creative gift ideas have you come up with?

    Love this. I try not to do baked goods because there is so much of it and since I love flowers – I take holiday arrangements to parties, lunches, etc.
