Fall is coming. I think.

August 16, 2009

Fall semester, I mean. Because it is still unbearably hot in west-central Florida.

The last night of class for this short summer semester came up quickly. I had these students for only a short six weeks, and I believe it’s far too short for a writing course.

I have two weeks of down time before fall semester starts. As M. recovers.

Fall semester to me means a chill in the air, watching football games with woolen lap blankets and leaves turning color.

In Florida, though, fall semester is just not the same. Not at all. Here in Florida, it’s hot hot hot and still hurricane season for much of the fall.

As much as I really don’t want to live in the Rust Belt, I do miss that fall weather. It’s my favorite season: autumn colors, colder weather, sweatshirts and jackets, the smell of burning leaves. That’s why we’re heading to Colorado for Thanksgiving.

I’ll teach 5 days week this fall, so “down time” is not very apt: I have to prep for TWO courses that begin for me Aug. 31. And take care of M.

Holy moley. Lots to do.
