For the Bible tells me so

January 4, 2010

That’s the name of a documentary we watched the other night on Netflix. It was about the way the Bible has been used against gay people, but really, it was about Biblical literalism.

I don’t really get Biblical literalism. How otherwise smart people believe that something written so many years ago, in a different time, with different customs, and that has been translated so many times that its original meaning is probably obscured can apply word for word today.

I especially don’t understand how they can pick and choose what to take literally and what not to.

The Bible is an important book with important lessons. But to depend on it as a literal guide for today is misusing it.

In my opinion.
