Forever & ever, amen

December 29, 2010

It’s been a long time since forever was part of my vocabulary. It’s unfamiliar terrain.

There’s not a place I’ve lived that I haven’t known another would follow.

Not a job that I didn’t know I’d leave for another, eventually.

And the same with most relationships.

After all, the world is full of possibilities and anything could happen.

Then, something did happen. And forever appeared in my life. Instantly.

Forever is the stuff of fairy tales. We learn young to aspire to it. And there was a day when forever really did mean to the end. But these days, we live on shifting sands. It takes skillful footwork just to remain relatively intact through the twists and turns of life. The coming and going of just about everything.

Truth is, I liked the changeable nature of my life. The constant stimulation kept it interesting.

But now, as I dig a shovel into my senior years, forever has shown its face.

This is likely to be the last house I’ll live in. {At least ’til they take me to the home.}

M. and I are married for keeps. {I hope!}

While I might dabble, I’m done with my career, forever.

Forever means all the way to the horizon and beyond.

And, as I’m learning, is its own adventure.

{And why is it that every damn bird looks like a Twitter bird?}
