Gandhi’s morning resolve: beautiful start to a day

Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day:

  • I shall not fear anyone on Earth.
  • I shall fear only God.
  • I shall not bear ill will toward anyone.
  • I shall not submit to injustice from anyone.
  • I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering.
    ― Mahatma Gandhi

I love this, especially the concept of not bearing ill will and conquering untruth by truth.

Gandhi's room

Gandhi’s room

An inspirational man and a unique blend of simple and complex. I never get tired of learning about him, especially since our visit to India. While we were in Mumbai, we visited Gandhi’s home and I took a few photos. He lived very simply, as you can see.

gandi shoesThese are his actual shoes–the don’t look very comfortable, do they? An early version of Dr. Scholl’s, perhaps?

gandi spin

The spinning wheel represented the simple life, he believed. He encouraged people to weave their own fabric to become self-sufficient and independent of the Brits.

There are so many well-known Gandhi quotes, but here’s one I don’t see a lot. It’s one of my favorites.
