Best gift idea of the year & giveaway

October 12, 2016

gift-ideaIf you’re looking for a special gift for a BFF, mother, sister –for whatever occasion, birthday, holiday, look no further. I have the best gift idea for you.

Simply Happy‘s subtitle is “A Crash Course in Chicken Soup for the Soul Advice and Wisdom.”  It’s by Chicken Soup publisher and editor-in-chief Amy Newmark, who set out to distill the wisdom from all the many Chicken Soup anthologies into a single volume of great, actionable tips.

In a word? Great. It’s a really neat little package of positive advice on everything from not being afraid to speak out and learning to love your body to what you can accomplish in a single spare minute.  That’s right: one minute.  Who wouldn’t want a book of universal wisdom, born of the experience of hundreds of women? That’s why it’s such a great gift idea.

There’s a section on removing toxic people –frenemies–from our lives, another on forgiveness and one of my favorites, a chapter titled “My Mother is an Alien.” It’s about daring to be different when raising children. Yes, something for everyone in this book.

Everything we need to improve our lives is inside us, Newmark says, and then proves it by this easy-to-read, helpful book, perfect for bedtime reading or even a lazy afternoon with a cup of tea.

In fact, a lovely gift idea would be the book, a beautiful tea cup and a box of tea. I know I’d love to get a gift like that for Christmas or my birthday.

I’ve sold a couple of essays to the Chicken Soup series and I know that not everyone is interested in every Chicken Soup title. But this is one book that anyone would love and benefit from.

It sounds wonderful Carol – but I’m a bit far away to win it. Looks like I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled in the bookstore for when it arrives Down Under.

  4. When my friend Keahi passed away last Sunday I vowed to continue her legacy. She was happy! And people loved her because she was happy. I have an enormous debt to her, she was there for me all the time, but one day, one very bad day, she saved me. I am going to repay that debt by looking after everyone she left behind with the tools she taught me. I am going to be happy. I have been reading as much and I can on being happy, which actually seems to be more of a verb….being happy….than just the noun happy. My love to you dear friend, enjoy your day today and remember you are loved

Thanks Carol, It’s good time to post something positive especially to distract us from the toxic political climate. I woke my DH up last night to tell him that I’m really afraid of what could be ahead. An ordinary woman was saying that if her candidate didn’t win, she would be willing to take part in a revolution. Of course the candidate in question has been fomenting acts of violence. I did not sleep well last night…8-(
