Good neighbors, good parties

June 19, 2012
The “neighbs” and their dogs came over the other afternoon
for an impromptu, 1950s-style potluck.
Shrimp on the barbie, flatbread with pear, arugula and caramelized onion,
cheese, crackers, strawberries, raspberries,
lemonade and an abundance of beer and wine.
I’d put together a party tune playlist on the Ipod.
This so reminded me of those backyard parties
our parents used to have.
Except that I didn’t wear a skirt.
And our parents didn’t have Ipods.
And dog treats weren’t on their menu.
When we first moved in to this neighborhood,
we weren’t sure what it would be like to
participate in suburbia,
me in particular.
I’d been so busy working
that I’d never gotten to know my neighbors.
Ever.
Once we met our neighbors here in
Willow Glen, we knew we’d moved into the right neighborhood.
They were our age.
Our politics.
Our 60s ….mentality.
Oh yeah, we like it here.
