Heading south

January 18, 2011

I’m heading to Tampa at dawn for a week of play with friends, while M. holds down the fort in California with the dogs.

I’ve been away a year and can’t wait to see everyone again.

My history in Florida’s been a long one. And complicated. Twelve years in Tallahassee, where I finished college, went to grad school and began my career.

A dozen years working in northern California, then four years full-time in Tampa followed by eight years living half in Tampa and half in California.

The Sunshine State’s got a tropical vibe and the sun really does always shine. Just about every day.

California suits me better, but I love Florida and it’ll always be my other home. Even though I couldn’t wait to escape some of the narrow attitudes and the stultifying business environment. (I’m sorry, Tampa, friends, but that’s the way I feel.)

Catch you from the Sunshine State. Let the party begin!

One of the few places there will be sun, not snow it seems. Enjoy!
