How Social Media Work

July 1, 2009

Earlier in the week, a friend of mine in her late 60s connected with me on Facebook. She said she was new to the scene, and asked, “What is FB all about? Why would I want messages to you to be public?”

Around that same time,I posted what I was cooking on my Facebook.

My girlfriend’s 21-year-old daughter, who is a Facebook friend and the mom of the tiny premie in NICU right now, saw it and said “oh, that sounds so yummy!”

I saw her post, and offered to fix her the same meal and bring it to the hospital, where she was healing from her C-section.

And I did just that, today.

While I was there, she brought me to the neonatal ICU, where I saw her teensie little girl. 2 lbs, 10 oz. and coming along pretty well.

Everything in the NICU is miniaturized, from a blood pressure cuff the size of a bandaid to the tiniest little pacifier. God’s work is done in places like that. God and Science.

And that, my friends, is how social media work.
