Independence Day 2010

July 4, 2010

I love our first flag. The circle of stars representing the original 13 states is a such a wonderful symbol of unity.

Our forefathers were smart guys who knew just the right ingredients to cook up a great nation. And great nation we are. Not perfect. But great, nonetheless.

Still, we’re in serious trouble and could use some of those smarts –and that original unity — right now. Banding together around common causes can help get us better navigate the economic, environmental and social issues that are dragging us down.

So when I say the Pledge of Allegiance today, I’m going to say it as a prayer. Won’t you join me?

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. I pray for one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Amen.
