Into the mystic: Pt. Lobos on the Monterey peninsula

August 18, 2011
Just south of Carmel is a beautiful state reserve: Point Lobos.

The morning’s thick fog and August sweatshirt weather didn’t deter us

from spending a couple of hours hiking this gorgeous place.

Join us.

The trails took us through cliffs and rock formations above the water,

which can barely be seen from this vantage point.
The moodiness of fog
Hardy little wildflowers, solitary and happily withstanding the wind.

I can hear Van Morrison singing Into the Mystic, can’t you?
The rock cliffs have been there forever. Timeless.
Morning fog at Point Lobos almost obscures the coves and lends an air of mystery.
A fence constructed without fasteners of any kind
Succulents grow out of rock.
