It’s time to redefine Valentine’s Day to make it more inclusive

February 14, 2022

Valentine's-Day
Valentine’s Day is not just for lovers. It’s for love. All kinds of love. And showing our love.

The month of February is a great time to send a different kind of valentine far and wide. How about some ideas?

  • Acknowledge your appreciation of people you know.
  • Tell them how proud you are of them, especially children. Affirming children has the biggest payoff of all. You can’t even imagine how huge.
  • Compliment people you care about for being beautiful inside and out. For their thoughtfulness. For their sense of humor. For their uniqueness. For…something you love about them.
  • Smile and say hello to everyone you see on the street. Wave to drivers in your neighborhood.
  • Donate to an animal rescue group.

Do this in person, via email, snail mail or a pretty card.

Or–send flowers or a book or something else they’d like to a friend going through a tough time.

Valentine’s Day is not just for romantic lovers. It’s for love of every kind. I hope this will inspire you to send love far and wide this month.

  1. Excellent point — here’s to love of every kind.

  2. Dear Carol, I LOVE your healing spirit and your tenacity and positive approach to life. You always lift me up. xoxox, Brenda

  3. I think that Covid has made everyone kind of draw not only physically but mentally and that’s something we shouldn’t let happen. It can turn into isolation very quickly. Thankful for your friendship as always and we have got to catch up soon.

We need to turn Valentine’s Day from a manufactured holiday that makes too many people sad/depressed, into true expressions of love. What great ideas!
