Longing’s not all it’s cracked up to be

December 13, 2010

There are lovers content with longing.
I’m not one of them.
– Rumi

Me, neither.

It’s true that I’m guilty of living
in either the future
or the past.

But when it comes to love,
I want it in the here and now.

Longing may be the stuff of poets and
writers, but it’s much over-rated.

  1. But doesn’t the longing intensify being with your lover when you’re back together? Longing and love are not the same thing to me.

    How are you defining love?

  2. I took Rumi’s quote to be about unrequited love and that angst that you feel when you don’t have the one you love.

You’re right, absence can make the heart grow fonder. Sometimes for your lover & sometimes for someone else!
