New Starbucks Refreshers

August 13, 2011

These haven’t made it to my local Starbucks yet, but they were tested last year in San Diego, where they seem firmly entrenched. I tried them last week.

From a brand extension standpoint, it’s a pretty clever idea: a cold coffee drink that doesn’t taste like coffee. Because it uses green coffee. The drinks –Cool Lime or Raspberry Hibiscus–are light and refreshing, perfect for summer or a warm year-around climate. Only 40 calories or so.

But I’m wondering how much caffeine is in them and whether the green coffee ingredient is even necessary. Except that it’s Starbucks and they make coffee drinks. And there’s definitely profit in “energy” drinks (see slogan, above).

So have you tried them?
