NY Times wedding announcements

January 11, 2010

I have to thank Gawker.com, one of my cyber-hangouts, for addicting me to the New York Times Sunday wedding section. There’s a life and vibrancy to the wedding writeups found nowhere else.

For example:

Last March, Mr. Altman noticed that Ms. From, whom he had never defriended on Facebook, had listed her status as “shaken and stirred.” Concerned, he inquired whether she was O.K. (She had been in a six-car highway crash, but was unhurt.) Online, they confessed to missing each other. Soon they were dating again.

Or this, about another couple, whose accompanying pictures shows them both wearing bowler hats:

“He was so charismatic,” Ms. Pehr said. “He went from such highs to such lows. There were some significant events. His mother’s passing, when his barber taught him about sex. The funny thing is that he’s now bald.”

On Ms. Pehr’s 26th birthday in 2008, he staged an elaborate proposal at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that included having a dozen friends stationed around the galleries in bowlers, offering riddles and clues.

Fun obituaries can’t be far behind.
