Out of my comfort zone

March 23, 2009

Anyone in my generation knows this photo, before it was “remixed” in PhotoShop by a far-out blogger. I thought it was so jarring it would be a suitable counterpoint to the sugar that I keep posting.

It’s hard not to be in a good place. I’m leaving the job. Starting something new. Good things are going on in my life. I am avoiding most news coverage.

But then, I saw this photo, thought of the original, and it reminded me of why I’m a pacifist. I can’t tell how old the blogger is, but I do wonder if he’s from my generation. This is probably the most cringe-worthy photojournalism I’ve ever seen. I remember it well.

I’m not sure how I feel about his replacing the gun with a mug. His post was about the political correctness and ethics of holding Starbucks stock. That’s because some of the coffee plantations the company sources from are guilty of encroaching on wild forests used by indigenous people for hunting, etc.

It definitely made a big impact though. Yep. An impact.
