Radical amazement

September 20, 2009

It’s easy to get stuck in the drone of day-to-day life. Get up. Go to work. Come home. Have dinner. Take kids to school. Pick them up. Go to their athletic events, concerts, recitals. Take them to play dates. On and on.

Maybe you take comfort in the routine. Maybe it bores you to tears and you can’t bear the thought of another day like that.

But the fact is that life is full of gifts, big and small.

Maybe it’s a baby’s smile. The smell of new-mown grass. Coffee with a friend. A soft rainshower. The purr of a cat. An unexpected phone call. A puffy cloud. A compliment. The perfect blue of a clear sky. A doggy kiss. Even a delicate rose or two.

These little surprises, small happinesses, love of one kind or another, are all around us.

We just have to show up for them. Notice them. Smile at them. And be grateful for them.

Even when life seems its dullest, surprises are there just waiting to be found. That’s the beauty of life.

Prepare to be radically amazed.
