If we wait until we’re ready…

October 26, 2016

If we wait until we’re ready we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.

ready

A card I bought in Santa Fe.

I’m notorious for having a good idea a minute and never executing. Well, maybe not every minute. But I get lots of ideas for new ventures that turn out to be all talk and no action.

It looks like things are changing, though.  I’m starting a business, one which will allow me to be of loving service to people in need of … support. It’s an idea I’ve had for a few years. And I’m moving smartly down the path of implementation.

What’s different this time is that it’s come from my heart and my soul. It doesn’t hurt that I’m being pushed along by forces greater than I, either.

Now, given that I’m in a tough and time-consuming course of study right now, I could easily say “I’m not ready!” Anyone would agree.

This time, though, it seems clear that if I want until I’m ready I’ll still be waiting when it’s time for me to leave the earth. So, planning, implementation, execution are all in progress.

I won’t tell you anything about it until I launch in the new year. A website devoted to this venture will be a big part of it and so will products and services. No, this blog and website won’t go away.

What I do want to say is this:  no matter what you want to do–get fit, finish college, find a new job, go to culinary school–if you wait until you’re ready you’ll be waiting the rest of your life.

So, as my favorite old Nike slogan says, JUST DO IT!

  1. Can’t wait to see what you’re creating.
I agree that we often need to move forward rather than thinking there is an ideal moment- I’m a big procrastinator!

  2. What a great reminder today and everyday!

  3. Tricia says:

I think that we all need to be reminded of this sometimes! Procrastination and fear of failure are the two things that seem to hold me back. How exciting for you that you are taking that next big step!

  4. Barbara says:

So true….it’s easy to keep preparing and planning and studying and visualizing but eventually one has to take that leap and get going with it.

  5. The best part? You know what you want and it has provided passion. You will succeed because of passion for the work. I haven’t found that yet. It is so comforting to know it occurs. I am excited for the big reveal!!

  6. Leanne says:

How exciting! You must be stoked to have this coming to fruition! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come out with – I’m sure it will be amazing and interesting and probably a little out of left field (and that’s the best place to come from) x

  7. Gary Mathews says:

  10. You are absolutely right! I’ve put off doing my greatest desire for decades, and now that I’m actually doing it, I can’t believe I let so many other things get in the way. This living and learning thing kind of sucks sometimes. Good luck on your new venture. I’m happy you’re devoting yourself to it.

  11. Valerie says:

Good for you, Carol. While change is challenging, it’s also good. And you’ll be doing something from the heart, so the pleasure you derive from it will be genuine and feed your soul. Blessings to you and kudos for making the decision to turn your ideas into actions.

  12. Yes make that bucket list and go for it! You never know if things aren’t the perfect fit for you if you dont just go for it. And it’s ok to stumble. It’s even ok to start over. At least you are living.

  13. I’m excited for you and can’t wait to hear more about it. Sometimes you just have to go for it and not wait for the perfect moment.

  14. Cori says:

Sometimes jumping right in is the best way to go! In a different avenue of thought, my family keeps telling my husband and I that there’s never a right time to have kids…ugh.

  15. Barbara says:

I’m so curious to know what this new venture will be. Looking forward!!
