I’m not sure why I started watching some of the Real Housewives shows, but I did, and then began following three of them: Orange County, New York and New Jersey.

None of these women are a housewives, of course. But, their lives were quite different from mine and, at least in the beginning, it was interesting to see what their lives were like, how another segment of women lived.

There’s a component of these shows that remind me of the Roman Coliseum events, and some of the audience reminds me of Romans watching the Christians get eaten by the lions. Because all of these shows over time have demonstrated the demise of individuals and families and the catalyst is the “reality TV camera.”

It probably wasn’t the intent, but it sure brings in ratings. Or does it?

Orange County is over the top,
