We started planning this a year ago, and finally, the day has come: we’re on our way today to Santa Fe, NM, where we’ll spend the entire month of October. Fall in Santa Fe is spectacular and we can’t wait to arrive. And yes, someone is watching our home.
We’ve packed up the Starship Enterprise for two long days of driving and Riley’s strapped into the backseat in his travel crate because yes, he’s coming with us. Did you think I’d be able to leave him for an entire month?
Not a chance.
“Home” will be a cool house we’ve rented near Canyon Road. We’re looking forward to spending time with our friends there, and of course, the sister of my soul will stay with us for a week. While she’s with us, the friends who attended the Afterlife Conference with me a few months back will drop by. These three people are way in touch with their spiritual sides and I expect nothing less than magic when the four of us get together. Because, as you know, Santa Fe is a spiritual place. A couple dear to my heart will also stay a couple days with us. We’re going to be busy!
The ghost of Georgia O’Keefe may drop in, you never know. The house was owned by friends of hers and she stayed in their guest room many times. All that soul-stirring may just conjure up a spirit.
We’ll be in Santa Fe for Day of the Dead celebrations, too. Oh and Sunday we hope to be at some Native American dances at Nambe Pueblo.
One of the most wonderful things about being retired is having the freedom to just pack up and leave for a month. This is the first time we’ll exercise our freedom to that extent, but I’m certain it won’t be the last.
We’re pretty familiar with all Santa Fe has to offer and our friends are locals–but we would LOVE to hear any off-the-beaten track ideas you might have for us. And stay tuned for some posts about the area after we’ve settled in.
I just adore Santa Fe. I was there twice and really am dying to go back. I don’t really have any tips but you sound like you already have amazing people and things to do. Enjoy, You’ve inspired me to plan some better trips with my hubby….for longer times…..after the daughter’s wedding of course (which I am calling our “vacation” cause that’s where the funds are going!) Enjoy! Waiting for the fantastic posts.
David and I often dream about spending a month away in one place! How fabulous to spend a month in Santa Fe. Sounds like you picked the perfect month! Enjoy!
I’ve always wanted to go to Santa Fe. A good friend is from there, and it sounds so beautiful whenever she describes it. All I can say is eat a lot of food with chiles! She talks about the amazing meals she has there all the time…particularly the breakfast dishes with chiles. YUM. Enjoy your October!
I’ve always wanted to visit Santa Fe, so I’m going to consider you my advance team, reconnoitering the area. Looking forward to your dispatches during what sounds like a fantastic month!
Gosh, Carol, this looks delightful! I’m sort-of retired, my hubby is not, so short trips for us! I’ve heard Santa Fe is beautiful! One of these days! Thanks for sharing on #TheLeisureLink!
