Some dance to remember

November 3, 2009

“But there again, some of life is best forgotten.”

I love that line from yesterday’s post on aging.

At the same time, I can’t help but wonder if it’s true.

For those of us who write memoir, memory is our stock in trade.

Because we write to find meaning in life, we have to remember. The sad times, the disappointments, the pain, the loss. The grief and heartache. They are as much colors in our palette as the joyful and peaceful times.

Without them, we would be one-note wonders.

As I prepare to write a memoir, I’ll have to put myself back in some dark times. I won’t have to stay there, but I’ll have to live there long enough to feel the emotions again. To be able to express them effectively.

To me, the walk down Memory Lane is always interesting.
