Sunday blessings: He made them all

December 20, 2009

“It is I who made all trees. You can think of Me any time you see any tree.”

I love that line from the Letter from Jesus I posted the other day.

I remember once standing atop Lookout Mountain in Colorado, at Buffalo Bill Cody’s grave, looking at the Rockies and down over the expanse of plains. At the majesty. The color. And knowing that only God could have made such beauty.

We focus so much on arguing how it all came to be–the Big Bang? Creationism? We don’t often stop to just enjoy the miracle of nature that God’s given us.

It’s irritating, really, how much we argue about things and how little attention we pay to them.

God can talk to us anywhere. But His power is most evident when I contemplate the beauty around us.

Which is why I can’t wait to get back to Big Sur. To hear the roar of the ocean, a not-very-pacific Pacific, escape the craziness of life around me and feel God’s majesty.
