Surprise visitor

June 19, 2009

So Riley likes to jump up into my arms and let me open the front door so we can both look outside. He loves the higher view. It’s a favorite treat. He even wags his tail to get me to pick him up. Too cute.

Just after lunch, he wagged his tail, jumped up into my arms and I opened the door.

Only to find a two-foot-long black snake waking up from a nap inside the screen door.

Whoa! Before I could say “Hey, Riley, a playmate!” I’d started to close the door, which nudged him outside again.

I don’t know which of us was more surprised, me or the snake.

Riley didn’t catch any of it.

Since I’ve worked my entire adult life, I had no idea how many interesting things happened at home during the day.
