Take a step and keep walking

February 21, 2011
We’ve all found ourselves holding on to old ways that no longer serve us.

Why is that?

Their familiarity is comfortable, for one. Like a security blanket. It’s intimidating to step out into the great unknown. To do things when the outcome is not known to us.

When we hold on to old ways that no longer work, we’re walking in place. We make no progress. Like the hamster, there’s effort but no forward momentum.

Thinking about it, alone, won’t get us to a new place.
Although confronting reality is a prerequisite.

A change in course is called for. And effort that actually carries us toward something.

First: Look at where we are versus where we’d like to be.

Then: Figure out what it will take to get there.

Begin the journey with a single step. And keep walking.
