Taking bread dough to the bakery in Marrakech

April 18, 2012

So we’re walking in the souk in Marrakech. We notice a woman standing in a doorway holding a basket of bread dough. She and Mohamed exchange a few words in Arabic, he takes the tray from her and off we go to the bakery, where we will drop her dough off to be baked. She and Mohamed are complete strangers, but she’s given him her family’s bread dough and trusts him to take it to the bakery.

Here’s what went on, and the explanation.
Experiences like this — priceless — the kind of thing that made our trip to Morocco so special.
