The conundrum of reconciliation

January 20, 2012

We are all, by nature, clearly oriented
toward the basic human values of love & compassion.

We all prefer the love of others to their hatred.
We all prefer others’ generosity to meanness.

And who is there among us who does not prefer
tolerance, respect & forgiveness of our failings
to bigotry, disrespect and resentment?
-Dalai Lama

If this is the case, and I believe it is,
then why is it so difficult sometimes
to reach across the chasms that separate us?

What is the cost of taking the risk?
of reaching across the unknown
to try to bridge the gap?
