The end is a beginning. Always.

April 4, 2013

That’s right.

It’s the beginning of something new.

Either a revision of what has been–
a new
improved
version

OR

something entirely different.
Which can scare people.

Oh, we rail against endings, don’t we?

When something comes to an end
it’s almost always because it wasn’t working.
That’s pretty much the truth about anything–
a job, a relationship–whatever.

So who wouldn’t want an improved version?
Or something different that’s even better?

You’d have to be crazy not to want that.

{Of course, some endings are
excruciatingly sad
and too soon
like the loss of a child
which I can’t even imagine
but if I did I think it would feel
like the end of the world
and indeed like everything is finished.

Still, it marks the start of a new chapter
even as we don’t want to leave the old
and as such it is the beginning
even if it’s life without.}

But here’s what I’m really saying:
Life has an ebb and flow to it.
All things happen as they should.

Sometimes endings are really
a chance
for new beginnings.
