The play’s the thing

August 14, 2010
Today I’m heading over to Scotts Valley to pick up a writer-friend and her visiting friend. We’re heading to Carmel, with the ultimate objective of attending a table reading of short plays another friend has written. The plays will be produced in November/December in Carmel.

I missed last year’s production of my friend’s short plays, on love that time, but this grouping’s all on a timely topic: unemployment. What’s astounding is that she’s pulled them all out of decades of inventory.

I mean, I have inventory, too, but couldn’t produce a book of essays on unemployment.

The playwright –a very talented woman–is one of the people closest to my heart. I love reading her plays and have attended only one production.

The one in which I was referred to as a “neurotic bitch.”

But, really, she was just stealing dialogue from something written by her son, who was my fiance at the time.

And it was meant lovingly.

But true.

And I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead.

Peace/out.
