There’s time, so much time

March 5, 2013

You can try to escape the story of your life
But you can’t
It happened
The baby died
The dog died
A heart broke
I knew you when you were young
I know your heart broke too
I will know you when we are both old
And maybe wise
I hope wise
I know you now
Your story
Mine isn’t the one I would have chosen in the beginning
But I’ll take it
It is my story
It’s only mine
And it’s not over
There’s time
There IS time
There’s so much time
~Laura Dern
as Amy in the beautifully written,
absorbing new HBO series,
Enlightened.

It’s unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Watch it.

Every episode opens with something like this,
a poem,
beautiful words,
words intended to make you feel something.
Words written by Mike White.

Words intended to change television.

Words that have.

I think that is an important message. I wear a ring my brother in Law made me from silver with a gold hour glass sand timer in the middle. It reminds me that ‘time is on my side.’

  2. I love Laura Dern and need to see this show. She doesn’t do anything halfway does she? Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem. There is time, isn’t there?

  3. Grace, I would love a pendant like that! I’m looking for one. Brenda, yes, and Laura’s not afraid to look like herself, her age. I respect her. Mike White is a hugely talented writer, too. It’s a good partnership. HBO needs to be encouraged to renew for 3rd season so please, tweet them!

  4. Susan Cooper says:

WOW, I loved this poem and haven’t yet seem the series. I will definitely do that now. Thank you for the heads up. 🙂

  5. I’d watch jut to see Laura Dern but the poem sounds lovely as well!

Thanks, I’ve not heard about this series, but I love the positive messages you’ve shared so I’ll check it out! Laura comes from ‘good stock.’ 🙂
