A VW van blogging carnival!

September 23, 2017

Close your eyes…transport yourself back to our youth….and then focus on this evocative image. Oh, that iconic VW van! It sure brings back memories! I’m not sure it was the kinder, gentler time of my fantasy but it certainly was a unique era.

But on to reality. Some Boomer bloggers have stuff to share today. Helpful, funny, thoughtful.

A different kind of Twister game

People in power are renown for not telling the truth, bending and twisting the truth, and even inventing ‘the truth’. But this phenomenon, so prevalent in our time, is not new, as Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting reminds us in her post Lies Our Leaders Tell Us. Looking back hundreds of years to another time and place when the powers of the era decided what was true and what was not, Baer recounts the story of one individual who advocated different ideas.

On a happier note she greets the new season with pictures reminding us change can be a wonderful thing in Greeting Fall.

Parents, take care….

And in helpful consumer news, there’s this: As summer ends, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, blogging at The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, writes that at least 163 children drowned in swimming pools and spas in the United States during the summer of 2017. See Robison’s article for steps that parents, caregivers, and pool owners should take to ensure that children and adults stay safer in and around pools.

A chapter we wish we could forget

Laura Lee Carter, over at The Adventures of the New Old Farts, has been watching the PBS Ken Burns special on the Vietnam War and learning so much she did not know about how catastrophes like that come about. She also enjoyed viewing a great new “writer’s film” last week. “Papa – Hemingway in Cuba” is written from the perspective of a young writer who enjoyed mentoring from Ernest Hemingway near the end of his life. It’s a true story. Don’t miss it!

A welcome grin

In this week’s post called Tongue-In-Cheek Tom Sightings offers up a look into the day-in-the-life of a typical retiree. There is biking, reading, TV, googling. Is there more?

A simpler life

We Boomers are simplifying like crazy! So last week I offered five easy ways to simplify your life. I think you’ll like them. And they will make life a whole lot easier!
