We tried really hard to buy living room furniture at several places. But like Goldilocks, some were too hard, some were too soft and none were “just right.”

At C&B the poor clerk was desperate to sell us a sofa and chair. She pulled out a catalog and showed me something that clearly wouldn’t go with our other things. It was pretty fussy.

No. It was pretty awful.

“We don’t have one in stock,” she said.

“It’s a blessing,” I told her.
