We were the world. Were we?

July 21, 2016

Gods-great-big-familyRemember when all those fantastic musicians got together for aid to Africa? Their catchy song, We Are the World, written by Michael Jackson and sung with such soul spoke to so many people all over the globe.

We are all part of God’s great big family. That’s what they sang. Was it true? Were we really the world? the  children? Did we really have that kind of empathy?

And if we did, do we have it now?

And then:

God's-great-big-family

Before you get your panties in a bunch, know this: I have no problem with a smart, conservative politician. Well, ok, I do have a problem with conservatism in general, but everyone’s entitled to their point of view. The problem I have is that the Republicans are forced to choose this man who appeals to the lowest common denominator. And there are many people who just don’t see that. Because that’s how they think, too.

I look around at the world and can only wonder: What happened?  Here’s the song, and I’d love to know what you think.

I just cannot believe all that’s happening in the world right now. It’s a very scary place.

  2. Thank you for addressing this. We are all part of a whole and are supposed to love and support one another. Unfortunately, Trump does perpetuate hate.

  3. Jessica says:

This year more than ever, people need to get out and vote. Even if they don’t like the presidential candidates, there are so many other seats open for election that are influential.

  4. I don’t know what are some people thinking. We all need peace.

  5. Barbara says:

I think you know, I’m in total agreement. The world has gone nuts. I’m desperately hoping things will begin to look brighter next week.
    Fingers crossed!

  6. The world is a really frightening place at the moment – so many people seem intent on becoming more insular and less tolerant. It’s very sad. x

  7. Amy Jones says:

Events like these really brake my heart, it’s so tragic that this things happen in plain 21st century

  8. Elizabeth O. says:

That’s my question too, what happened? What’s happening to the world right now? I don’t understand where all of these came from, the hatred, the aggression, all of it. I thought we were moving along a path to greatness, where equality is finally something within our reach. I thought wrong. It’s devastating and it’s disappointing. And there’s nothing we can do but to keep trying to show compassion, kindness, and love towards one another so we can at least lessen this.

  9. The world needs love right now. Not to be divided even more. I still have hope that whatever happens, people will continue to do good in the world and help to heal because that’s what we all need!

  10. The world is a very different place now. Things have changed and evolved a great deal since this song was produced. I often wish we could go back to the way things were … but … hopefully we, the people, will find our way together.

  11. Vyjay says:

  12. tauyanm says:

  13. It’s so scary. I’m heartbroken by everything that is happening.

  14. tp keane says:

The world has become a scary place. It’s grown smaller and some people feed off people’s fear. Trump would be the last person in the world who should become president. He was bankrupt five times for God’s sake.

  15. victoria says:

It’s so scary! It’s so hurt to see this happening.

  16. aziel morte says:

We need a prayer to our country, It’s a heart breaking seeing this.

  17. Hannah says:

Yes, it is so sad how much hate has sprung up. Hopefully many people will choose to vote third party and not support this hatred.

  18. To be a bit different, I think everything’s just worse before. It’s just that the problem nowadays is we’re going back to the same mistakes because of being “open-minded” in a wrong way.

  19. Kathy Kenny Ngo says:

Apparently reality is a lovely place but I wouldn’t wanna live there. Yes indeed what is happening to our world.

  20. Karlyn Cruz says:

Yeah, what is really happening to our world. This place seems to be a hard and scary place to live with.

  21. Nicole Escat says:

Even in our own country, there are many killings around. People are getting mad but I hope these hatreds will end.

  22. I have been so raw these past few weeks watching things playing out in our world…I just cannot contemplate it getting any worse.

  23. Frances D says:

I know one Republican who has left their party because of Trump – I am sure many others have too. You have inspired me to call the local news and suggest that as a story: interview Republicans who have left the party because of the Menace. Watching Trump on the news and in social media is like being forced to watch a horror movie over and over again. Thanks for sharing.

  24. Rosey says:

Every generation says the world’s gone to heck in a handbasket. Ours really does seem to have some very bleak moments. Thank goodness for the good, and there’s lots of it around still.

  25. Alana says:

Perhaps 9/11 (which personally impacted several people I know, including one who lost his son) did it. For whatever reason, we have reached a level of hate I never even saw in the late 1960’s.

  26. Kathy says:

It’s so sad what’s been happening lately. I just wish all this violence would stop. It’s to bad we can’t all get along and have peace.

  27. Glenda says:

Yes I remember that song. It is scary how crazy this world has become.

  28. I was just thinking how out of control the world is today. Let’s just take a look at the U.S. for a minute…I can’t turn on the news (or TV, in general) without being bombarded by so much hate, ignorance and negativity. And, side note…I just love Stephen King…my favorite author.

  29. We are at war. People are fighting governments invoking religion. We are not safe anymore, no matter where we are… the the politicians don’t care about any of us

  30. Mardene Carr says:

Sigh…the world is now a big scary place. It is no longer fun to travel because of what is going on. Sigh

  31. Praying for the world. So many bad things are happening, it is scary.
