Wait….is that it? I do agree that luck is simply being prepared and then being aware of opportunities.
I’ve never believed in “luck”. Especially being the child of casino owners I knew luck wasn’t real,
Or at least luck wasnt what we normally consider it to be. Am I lucky to have a wonderful family or this a blessing? Am I lucky to be healthy? It’s easier to think a person is lucky than to consider God is handing out blessings and didn’t give you one you really wanted. Because then God looks punitive, even petty. Which doesn’t work since neither attribute is a God like quality. I prefer to think of my blessings as “deposits”. I am healthy so I can serve those who aren’t. I have knowledge so I can teach, I have means, so I can share. I have been the recipient of so many blessings from other people’s “banks”. It’s true, our prayers are answered through other people. So i do have to be prepared when that opportunity comes. Happy Sabbath!

There is a degree of “luck” in getting the opportunity. But I agree, you must be ready. I’ve read a story about the late children’s book author Dr. Seuss. Not sure if the story is true or not, but it appeared on an NPR segment in 2012. Dr. Seuss’s manuscript for what became his first children’s book had been rejected 27 times. He was walking home one day and bumped into a friend who had recently been hired as a children’s book editor for a famous publishing house. So – Dr. Seuss was ready. But he was also lucky. He explained if he was walking on the other side of the street, the encounter never would have happened. So, would Dr. Seuss have kept trying, or would he finally have given up, if he hadn’t bumped into the friend? We will never know.

  3. Luck involves a lot of things…including where you are born, into which class you are born, what life prepares you for. Once all of that is in order…you can work really hard and not have any luck. My dad always thought that his success was pure luck…he worked hard for it. Your race, class, gender all has such a huge effect…check out billionaires…bunch of white men in the USA, yes? Luck is never pure…it all comes from what opportunities you are prepared for.
