Rest in peace, Whitney, and may your next life be drug-free and beautiful. -post on an entertainment blog
We’ve lost another incredible talent when the Lord called Whitney Houston home today. Truth is, we didn’t lose her today. We lost her a long time ago, to the irresistible siren song of drugs.
There’s a lot of TV blah-blah-blah going on right now and only snippets of information coming out. But whether she died of an overdose or suicide, “natural causes” or something else, it’s a good bet that drugs were involved. In one way or another.
She was beat, that much was obvious from news coverage and photos in recent years. Beat and tired. Weak and worn. Because that’s what addiction did to her.
I didn’t always understand the powerful hold drugs can have. But over the past decade, I’ve made it a point to learn, and grew in respect for those who have worked hard to manage their addiction and lead functional lives.
Despite her gifts, Whitney just couldn’t get there and the world’s a greyer place without the light of her beautiful voice.
I love the sentiment I reposted, above. Yes: may her next life be drug-free and beautiful.
Elvis Presley/Precious Lord Take My Hand video
Precious Lord, take my hand Lead me on, Let me stand I’m tired, I am weak I am worn Through the storm, through the night Lead me on to the light Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near When my life is almost gone Hear my cry, Hear my call Hold my hand lest I fall Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
When the darkness appears and the night draws near And the day is past and gone At the river I stand Guide my feet, Hold my hand Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
Precious Lord, take my hand Lead me on, Let me stand I am tired, I am weak, I am worn Through the storm, through the night Lead me on to the light Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
