Whole Foods Heaven

January 28, 2010

See this? It’s my Whole Foods Market. In Cupertino. And it’s even longer than what you can see in the photo. It’s bigger than most strip centers.

After four days on the road eating fast food we craved fresh. Green. Healthy. (This is not Europe, we couldn’t bring Riley into restaurants, and if we left him in a strange hotel — and believe me, they were ALL strange this trip, he’d bark constantly.)

I was exhausted when I walked into Whole Foods this afternoon. But that changed when I stepped over the threshold. So much bounty! Fresh. Colorful. Perfectly formed. Delicious. And best of all–so much already prepared!

I felt like Dorothy at her first sight of Oz. No, I wasn’t in Kansas any more. And I didn’t want to leave.

Tonight: Chicken Tikka Masala. Roasted asparagus. Greek salad. A bit of quinoa. Fresh, cut cantaloupe.

Riley had kibble.

On the way home, the radio played Primitive Radio Gods’ Phonebooth. I just cranked up the volume and let it wash over me. It’s that kind of sound.

“…you ride the waves and don’t ask where they go…”

Yes, I’m home. Finally.
