Chronic pain & migraine relief

September 20, 2017

migraine-relief“The 12-member National Institute of Health Technology Assessment Panel on Integration of Behavioral and Relaxation Approaches into the Treatment of Chronic Pain and Insomnia (1996)
reviewed outcome studies on hypnosis with cancer pain and concluded that research evidence was strong and that other evidence suggested hypnosis may be effective with some chronic pain, including tension headaches.”

As a kid I remember seeing my mother wrap a scarf tight around her head to try to control her migraine pain. Those were the days before Imitrex and the other migraine relief medicines commonly prescribed today.

Even as we pop pills when we’re desperate for pain relief, sitting quiety on the sidelines is another way to manage pain. A way that requires no medication at all. Drug-free pain relief.

Hypnosis.

In 2006, the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis updated a 1996 literature review about using hypnosis with chronic pain — and said the evidence was strong that hypnosis can work. So you might wonder why more migraine sufferers and even those with cancer pain aren’t told they can try hypnosis. I certainly wonder.

Even the Migraine Treatment Centers of America tout hypnosis as an effective pain relief method for those debilitating headaches. But I’ll bet your doctor never mentioned it.

Migraine sufferers: I know it’s easier to pop a pill for pain relief.  But why take a medication if you might not need to? That’s what my husband discovered after surgery, when he used my audio imagery for pain relief and never once opened his bottle of oxy.

At A Healing Spirit, I offer pain management hypnosis that can be done via Skype, a custom guided imagery to help with your specific pain, or our off-the-shelf audio imagery for pain management.  Our downloadable audio requires no work on your part. Simply download, pop in some ear buds and prepare to relax and manage your pain. Without drugs.

We’re offering a special price of $2.99 on our off-the-shelf downloadable guided imagery for pain relief from today through Sunday, Sept.24. Enter the code MIG upon checkout.

By the way, this audio is helpful for any kind of pain. That’s right. Just sayin’.

  1. Oh wow! I’ve never heard of hypnosis for pain before. I think it’s an interesting idea, and totally worth a shot. Drugs have so many side effects!

  2. Vera Sweeney says:

I am definitely interested in this. I get chronic migraines, which means I chronically ingest lots of drugs to help with them. I would love to find drug-free relief.

  3. I can see how hypnosis could help with migraine pain. EVEN if you don’t subscribe to the idea of hypnosis, just the calming aspect of the words washing over you can help with the stress associated with migraines. I would definitely try this.

    • Well, here’s the thing. So many misunderstand it. Hypnosis is no more something we believe or don’t believe in as penicillin is. People have been using it for pain for decades. In fact, my dog’s vet used it to have both her kids pain free. You’re right, it is so worth a try!

  4. Jennifer says:

I just ordered it. I’ll let you know what I think!

  5. Erin F says:

I never even considered hypnosis as a form of pain relief!! What a great idea! It sure beats taking a bunch of pills!

  6. Brett says:

We try to avoid taking medication unless absolutely necessary. Diffusing essential oils helps. I had migraines for a long time but as it turned out it was from grinding my teeth.

Hypnosis is an amazing tool for so many things. If I start getting migraines ever again I will look to hypnosis first!

  7. I think it’s great whenever we can find effective “natural” solutions for pain. I had no idea hypnosis would work for migraines but that totally makes sense.

  11. It’s really amazing what the mind can do to help our ailments! It’s such a good alternative from taking tons of meds. I think people should consider this especially when they’re in too much pain from the migraine.

  12. Maureen says:

What a great idea to get rid of migraines without medicines. I know I hate taking medicine if I don’t have to. I love the idea of hypnosis helping.

  13. I really do believe that we have a lot of mental power that would be astonishing if we could just learn to tap into it. I have always been interested in hypnosis, but I never considered it for pain relief. I am getting ready to have my second baby, and it would be interesting to try this to see if it would help during delivery.

  14. Kristin says:

This is so great and you are so right.

  15. I would rather get this kind of help than take medicines, to be honest. Especially since I’m sure our minds can take it. It’s amazing that you’re offering this service!

  20. Our Family World says:

I will suggest this to my husband. He has chronic lower back pain brought about by spinal stenosis. He does not like to have it surgically corrected so he relies on pain relievers and steroid shots. I think it is about time we take a look at other options for pain management. Thanks for sharing the information.

  21. Annemarie LeBlanc says:

Alternative medicine to manage pain is also good. I have tried acupuncture and acupressure before and it did help. I have to try hypnosis too. Sometimes my back pain gets really bad and it annoys me to be downing so much pills! I will have to check this suggestion out. Thanks for letting me know.

If hypnosis works then nothing like it! because chronic pain is a serious problem sometimes no definite cause is ascertained and no perfect treatment could be prescribed. Hypnosis could be a great alternate therapy if it works with all kinds of pain.

  29. I never even considered hypnosis as a form of pain relief!! What a great idea! It sure beats taking a bunch of pills! buy original alpha pharma letromina

  30. Very informative read! I had been struggling with chronic migraine and back pain since a long time and could not understand why, used a lot of home remedies and it turned out that the underlying cause couldn’t possibly go away without meds, luckily, a doctor from artroplastias.com was able to treat it. Those were some painful 5 months!

  31. John Gatesby says:

I agree and believe that your therapy would be really effective. My teenage son has a migraine and in his case I have seen it gets triggered by stressful situations or sometimes springs out of nowhere at all! But one thing is always there if something good or happy incident occurs, his headache vanishes. So there is a natural way to treat these tension headaches.

  32. Taylor says:

Ive never heard of Hypnosis solution for migraine.
Definitely have to give it a try.
In all the remedies that Ive tried so far, cbd seems to be the best.

    Thanks for the article.
