How to recognize guidance from within

“Carol, is it my imagination, or are you
receiving guidance from within?

“Well then, may I suggest you act on it,
as if nothing else mattered?

Mike Dooley’s daily Notes from the Universe almost always resonate with me, and when this one on inner guidance came, I knew I had to  bring it to your attention.

I’m pretty sure we all know when our inner wisdom is giving us an answer or even a solution to something sticky going on.

The question is, do we want to take it?

Hey, I feel you! I am infamous for insisting on going in a different direction that my wiser inner self suggests!

So here’s a bit of advice.

First, how do we recognize that inner guidance?

The signs aren’t always going to hit us in the face. Look for the subtle signs. If you’re feeling a little uneasy about a direction you’re about to take, pay attention!

We are all intuitively gifted. But some of us are more in touch with that than others. Try to differentiate between your intuition and logic.

And then, pay attention. I am very in touch with my own intuition. It gives me the ability to read a person (or a room) instantly. But that doesn’t mean I always act on it. Because sometimes I am insistent on going a different way. Usually a mistake.

Meditation or yoga quiet the mind and answers can come in that stillness. Even if it’s only 10 minutes a day, a meditation practice can help you see things a different way. The easiest way to do this if you’re just starting out is through guided meditations. You can find hundreds (if not thousands) on YouTube. Search “how to connect with your inner wisdom meditation” or similar terms.

Then, how do we actually act on that guidance?

Well, that’s the bigger issue, at least for me.

Learn to trust your intuition and that inner voice and if you truly believe it won’t steer you wrong, you’re more likely to act on it. To take that step, no matter how much you might not want to.

So what do you think?

One of the benefits of growing older is learning to trust our instincts more. You’re right. It’s a small but powerful voice.
