Today is National Awe Day

National Awe Day, newly recognized by the National Day Council (did you know there was such a thing?), invites everyone everywhere to experience wonder through a simple, 15-minute Awe Walk.

What’s an Awe Walk?

  • Step outside, ideally somewhere new or at least unfamiliar.
  • Put away your phone.
  • Slow down and turn your attention outward.
  • Notice the extraordinary in the ordinary. Take in the range of wonders, from a single leaf to an entire tree, or one cloud to the vastness of the sky.

Awe is said to be one of the most overlooked forces in human wellbeing. There’s science behind it, and I believe it. Plus it’s free and available to everyone, everywhere.

There are many rather silly recognized “days” (like National Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day and yes, it’s real, May 29) but this one? Worth doing today.

Why not give an awe walk a try? And if you can’t walk, then sit and look around. Same benefit.

And consider making it a daily practice. After all, it’s for your health!
