What are attunements & how do they raise consciousness?

May 6, 2026

attunementsIf you’ve spent time with the teachings of Paul Selig and his Guides, you’ve encountered the concept of attunements. They are central to the work—yet difficult to define in conventional terms. That’s because attunements are not ideas to be understood as much as they are experiences to be received.

The Guides describe attunements as energetic transmissions—vibrational alignments that bring you into agreement with a higher level of consciousness. You’re probably thinking, “Whaaat??”

Even more different, they are often spoken aloud in the books in a rhythmic, almost incantatory language. But the words themselves are not the point. The words carry the energy. And that energy is what does the work.

So what is actually happening in an attunement?

According to the Guides, we all operate at different levels of vibration depending on our thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. Much of the time, we’re attuned to fear, judgment, or limitation—simply because that’s what we’ve been taught, reinforced, and conditioned to believe is real.

An attunement acts like a tuning fork.  It offers you another frequency to resonate with—one that is aligned with what the Guides call the “Upper Room,” a state of awareness beyond fear and separation. When you engage with an attunement, you are, in essence, being invited to match that higher tone.

Not through effort, but through agreement.

This is such an important distinction. The Guides are very clear that you are not “earning” anything through these practices. You are not climbing a spiritual ladder or proving your worth. You are choosing, again and again, to align with what is already available to you.

The attunements help facilitate that choice.

They bypass the analytical mind–that part of us that was to dissect, question and often resist.  Instead, they work on a more subtle level, where transformation can occur without the usual friction.

People often report feeling a sort of shift when they work with attunements; Sometimes a sense of calm or expansion, sometimes it’s emotional release. Sometimes it’s nothing they can clearly name—but something feels different afterward.

That “difference” is the beginning of reorientation. Because the real benefit of attunements isn’t a temporary state—it’s a gradual recalibration of how you experience yourself and the world.

Over time, as you continue to engage with attunemennts, you may notice that your reactions soften. The things that once triggered you don’t land in quite the same way. Old narratives—about who you are, what’s possible, what you deserve—start to loosen their grip.

You’re not forcing these changes. You’re allowing them.
And that allowance is key.

The Guides emphasize that attunements are not about escaping the human experience. They are about inhabiting it differently. You still live your life. You still face challenges, relationships, uncertainty. But you begin to meet those experiences from a different level of awareness.
Less defended.
Less afraid.
More present.

There is also a cumulative aspect to this work.

One attunement may feel subtle. But over time, they build upon each other, creating a kind of inner scaffolding that supports you in staying aligned even when life feels chaotic.  It’s not that you never “fall out” of alignment—you will. Everyone does.
But the return becomes easier, faster, more natural.

And perhaps most importantly, attunements begin to change how you see yourself. The Guides teach that who you truly are is already divine, already whole, already in alignment with Source. The problem, if there is one, is simply that we have forgotten.
Attunements are a way of remembering, not intellectually, but experientially. They remind the body, the mind, and the energetic field of a truth that has always been there, beneath the noise of fear and conditioning.

You may not be able to explain exactly how they work.
You don’t need to.

The invitation is simply to receive, to allow, and to be willing to be met in a new way.

And in that willingness, something begins to shift—not because you’ve fixed yourself, but because you’ve aligned to what was never broken.

Want to know more? In the next post, I’ll explain exactly how to use them.
