Open the door & come along for a stroll in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Inn on the Alameda
We’re staying near the Plaza at the lovely Inn on the Alameda. Free parking, free wi-fi, yummy free continental breakfast and wine and cheese reception–we like their style! Also, a feast for our eyes.
Plenty of light outside–the sun is relentless and I’m glad it’s fall—but the hotel has one of my pet peeves–overly dark rooms. Light fixtures provide “mood lighting” only and so I had to ask for a flashlight so I could actually see what was in my drawers. Not kidding! I know it’s economical and keeps things cool, but it’s like living in a cave. A pretty cave. Ristras hang in the bright sunshine everywhere. I remember being so intrigued by them on my first trip to Santa Fe many years ago
By the time we got in we were tired and not n the mood to go out. The hotel’s charming little bar had a small menu. We decided to dine outside, since it was a lovely evening.
Patio bar
Night fell while we ate steak sandwiches washed down with Marble Brewery beer, a local red.
Sleep was elusive–I just don’t do well with altitude. So we began our first day slowly and decided to museum hop in the Plaza.
After looking at these shots I realized my camera lens had a big smudge. Future photos will be sharper.
I loved this little painting on the wall next to La Fonda’s hotel garage.
The art’s pretty fun, too, and lots of it outdoors.
I loved this proud Native Woman. And then, this:
Isn’t it considerate to write graffiti in chalk? I have no idea what it is, but it is on a chalkboard-like surface and in chalk. The area’s been erased before, that’s clear. So maybe it’s participative public art.
We’re here till Saturday–seeing friends and having fun. Then, back to Albuquerque for some time at the Balloon Fiesta. Hope to get some fabulous photos then.
Sorry we’re missing each other. Celebrating our 25th anniversary and spending quality and necessary time together here. Not able to stay as long as you so we’re squeezing everything in. Lovely photos of a gorgeous place. Love the art and architecture.
Thanks for sharing! I”ll probably have a similar post -but don’t know how my pictures will come out, either. Better check my lens!
Here you’ll find my blog, some of my essays, published writing, and my solo performances. There’s also a link to my Etsy shop for healing and grief tools offered through A Healing Spirit.
I love comments, so if something resonates with you in any way, don’t hesitate to leave a comment on my blog. Thank you for stopping by–oh, and why not subscribe so you don’t miss a single post?
