Summer’s bounty brought to you by Source

Hollyhocks in Capitola, CA
These beautiful hollyhocks were growing outside a small strip center
in the tiny beach town of Capitola.
Summer’s bounty.
Their crepe-paper-thin petals were perfectly rendered
by the hand that created us.
I remember standing on a Colorado mountaintop years ago
surveying the beauty below with a friend who is an atheist.
“I don’t know how you think all this beauty
got here,” I said, “if not by a power
greater than ours. By plan. By the creator or Source.”
He shrugged.
But then, scientists usually want to be shown.
I think the world around us is proof enough.
It’s clear that we can never see an objective truth.
We judge everything around us from our own
frame of reference.  That seems natural,
because how else would we? you might ask.
But I believe our frame of reference is limited.
That there is far more to –to life, existence,
the universe — the whole plan, really,
than we can see with our limited vision.
Just because we can’t do it now
doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
A look back in  history proves that.
So why can’t we accept that there are things
beyond our understanding, concepts we can’t even fathom
in this life and the next?
