Exclusion

September 28, 2026

exclusionA sad little space opens inside when someone is excluded.

It’s not always visible, though. It sits just beneath the surface, like a low, persistent ache, with a faint but unmistakable sting of being unseen.

Exclusion tells a story that cuts deep: you are not part of this. Or, I’m not thinking of you.

Either way, it’s painful. We feel insignificant.

Have you ever had a friend for whom you’ve gone the extra mile, but who doesn’t even think of you when opportunities arise?

It’s that. And more.

It can happen in a thousand small ways—a conversation that drifts past you, an invitation that never arrives, a chilly silence that is obvious where warmth might have been. Over time, those small omissions can be damaging to our sense of worth. Oh, I’ve seen it more than a few times in the world around us.

And yet, the remedy is so simple, so human.

It’s inclusion. Opening the circle a little wider. Of saying, “come sit with us.”

It’s that easy. And yet, for some, it’s so difficult.

To include is to recognize the beauty of every soul longing to be seen. It is to extend grace where indifference might have lived. It is to weave connection from what is clearly loneliness.

When we make space for others, we do more than welcome them in—we mend something ancient and aching in ourselves, too.

Because inclusion really is the language of love.

Who can you include in something today?
