How to be cozy in troubling times

cozy

You’d have to be living under a rock to not feel the tension in the air right now. The incivility that permeates the airwaves and the social media environment. At least for me, it’s a time to seek comfort, and that can be hard to come by. So my first step is always to try to make my environment cozy. Because cozy= a bit of comfort, at least to me.

Getting cozy is easier to do in colder weather. Here are some ideas:

Cushy pillows and an afghan.

A fire in the fireplace.

A cup of something warm.

Fresh, clean sheets.

Simmer orange peel, cloves and cinnamon sticks on the stove in some water.

Set a big bouquet of flowers in your eyeline.

A lit candle with a relaxing aroma.

Soft music.

Read good book.

A bowl of soup.

Warm cookies.

Sit in sunlight through a window.

Even better…meditate in the warm sun of a big window to the outdoors.

A hot bubble bath with cushy towels.

Cuddle a furry pet.

And most of all, turn off your devices. Step away from social media, news and anything else that can harsh your cozy vibe.

What’s your favorite way to get cozy?

It is a hard time and these are great suggestions! In fact, I’m going to simmer a pot of orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon right now! Thanks for the pick-me-up ideas!

  2. Definitely important self-care – this week, my husband and I decided not to read political news until election day because it always messes with our emotions and sense of well being.

Love all these. You’ve covered all the basics!
