Kill the world with kindness today

kinder world

I like the idea of killing the world with kindness. Let’s do it. Let’s kill the world with kindness.

Because kindness matters.

Let’s each do some random acts of kindness today.

Pick one that you’d really like to do and share it in the Comments below. You never know how your own might inspire someone else’s random act of kindness!

I’m going to take time to write a real note–yes, one that I actually will stamp and mail–to someone who’s gone through a bad time.

How about you? What will you do today to make the world a little kinder?

Because making the world a little kinder is good for us all.

  1. I love this and try to help others ever day.

Today I’m paying forward a kindness to someone I love: my husband. We are going to spend the day being together and leaving our worries behind. It’ll put a smile on our faces.

  2. I’m on my way out the door to a committee meeting. I’m going to be really quiet for a change. And then later in the day, I’m going to find one of the teachers and tell her that I appreciate how much preparation she does for her weekly lessons on the Old Testament. Hmmm. Maybe I will actually write a note card instead. I have time between meetings to do that. Thanks for the nudge!

  3. I will make direct eye contact with a worker/ server, store clerk or someone like that. Smile and say thank you. It’s something I started doing regularly a few years ago- I particularly focus on those people who might not expect a personal connection.

  4. Carol, I always think that a reminder like this is great. There’s a country talk show – the Bobby Bones show – where they really talk about kindness a lot. I have quoted a quite distinguished man (whose name escapes me right now…) who told a recent graduation class that is major regret in life is what he termed “failures of kindness”. I will keep this in mind all day – be my usual fairly random self and look for that opportunity!

  5. I never thought I’d be quoting Jewel but she nails it with the line, “In the end, only kindness matters.” Yes, ready to kill the world with kindness today.

I love this! I received an email from a women who is having an extremely difficult time in menopause. I have sent her my cell phone so that I can chat with her. She was shocked that I answered her email, let alone gave her my cell phone – all for free. Sad commentary on the world. Do we have to charge people for being supportive???? We all need support and help through life. Maybe if we had a class in kindness in elementary school – we would have less violence in this world. Thanks for this beautiful post, Carol.

I feel this frustration so often lately when listening to the news and seeing all the hatred and even unthinkable cruelty and decided a while ago that I would keep speaking, writing of more soulful, kind, soft ways to be in the world. Soft doesn’t mean pansy. Gentle can be strong. I’m going to share this post today to spread the ripple.

    Thank you for the reminder.

  9. I like your idea, though I will phrase it as “Enliven the World with Kindness.” Our bodies hear every word we say, so I will choose some peaceful, connecting ones to use today.

My spiritual advisor says that there are always only two choices, power and love. I try so hard to always choose love (and therefore kindness) I wold much rather be kind than right. Thanks for spreading this.

  11. I found a older man wandering around the local Walmart parking lot and helped him locate his vehicle and stowed his groceries in his trunk. Then he asked me to run away with him. Not life changing but he was happy to be out of the heat.

I try to do this every day. Being kind is so easy and means so much. One of my favorite quotes from the Dalai Lama – “Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them”. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Great assignment! Even though I didn’t read this on the day you posted, I’m totally gonna do something Kind today. (Maybe I’ll pay forward somebody’s library fine…)

  14. Risa says:

Missed this one. I let some guy cross in front of me today, and he gave a little wave. Not much of a contribution to kindness in the world, but it made both of us smile.
