Living in the present

April 26, 2010
Living in the present is harder than it looks.

At least for me.

Sometimes, I’ve been guilty of living in the past.
It’s hard not to look at the good times gone by with rose-colored glasses.
My life’s been pretty diverse, and I have a variety of fun experiences to look back on.

Most often, though, I live in the future.

For example, we have two big trips and a few small ones planned for the rest of the year.
We haven’t even gone on the first big trip and I am already working on our 2012 trips.

Sometimes I wonder if we should just skip the trips and do the planning.
You know, let the anticipation be the event.

Of course, I no longer need to live in the past or the future.
Because my present is both.

Which is pretty darn strange, if you ask me.

I try to remind myself to savor the moment.
To not be so quick to look ahead.

Because these moments are the fun times of which memories are made.
And they’re all we’re really assured of.
