Obama discussed women’s issues at BlogHer ’12

President Obama opening BlogHer ’12 in NYC via internet feed

It was overwhelming, really, that President Barack Obama officially opened our conference yesterday, talking about the significant role women have played in his life, starting with his grandmother and mother, and then his wife and two fabulous daughters. His mother was a single mom who put herself through school, he pointed out, and modeled the bootstrapping that was characteristic of his life.

He told us about his grandmother, who worked her way up from secretary to vice president at her local bank, then hit the glass ceiling and watched men progress as she stayed in place. A story many of us Baby Boomers know only too well.

This is a president and a candidate who gets women’s issues because he saw them first hand as he grew up.

It was thrilling, really, to have our president open our blogger conference.  A really big deal. And so fun to watch. BlogHer kicks some major ass, if you’ll pardon the expression.
