Samba with me to the sea

Northern Californians head to the sun and surf
about this time of year.

In my neck of the woods, the nearest beach is Santa Cruz.
Getting there requires driving a gnarly mountain road with eight miles of switchbacks.

Beach traffic on weekends is awful.

But still, we do it.
It is, after all, Santa Cruz Beach.
Back when we thought tanning was a good thing
I was there a lot.
Now, one of my meds makes me sun-sensitive
so I can’t even be in the sun for any length of time.
Even if I wasn’t afraid of skin cancer.

But I still love the beach.

Next week a friend and I are going down the road a bit further
south to Capitola for a beachy lunch and stroll around the
shops on the Esplanade.

What’s your favorite beach?
